Get Involved with DSNY

DSNY does a lot to keep New York City clean, but they can’t do it alone. With a city of 8.5 million people, we have a responsibility to take action by reducing our consumption, reusing what we can, and recycling what’s left - but it doesn’t end there. Here are three impactful ways you can get involved with DSNY to keep our city clean:

Do Your Part

The most important thing you can do each and every day is to make sure you’re properly disposing of your waste. Know whether the items you’re tossing belong in the trash can, recycling bin, or compost collector - and if it’s one of the latter two, be sure you’re following local guidelines for disposal.

Refresh your memory by taking a look at New York City’s recycling and composting guidelines. By disposing of waste the correct way, you’re not only helping out the team at DSNY, but you’re also doing your part to help the planet.

Volunteer

New York City can get dirty, but you can help clean it up! If you’re looking for a hands-on way to get involved, consider getting out in your neighborhood to pick up trash, debris, and other odds and ends that litter our streets. You can do this individually or organize a team cleanup effort with your friends, company, or community.

Give

There are 10,000 people behind the NYC Department of Sanitation working tirelessly to provide the essential services that keep the City healthy, safe and clean, and helping to bring us to zero waste to landfills. However, they can’t do this alone, they need help - and that’s where The Sanitation Foundation comes in.

The Sanitation Foundation is the official non-profit partner of the New York City Department of Sanitation. Their mission is two-fold: to celebrate and support the essential Sanitation workforce and advance the Department’s ambitious zero-waste agenda. You can support The Sanitation Foundation and its mission directly by making a donation at sanitationfoundation.org/donate.
